Vasque is one of those manufacturers that people blindly trust. They have been making great hiking and backpacking shoes since the 1960s. So when they come around and claim their Vasque Men’s Mantra 2.0 is a shoe worthy of your consideration, people take notice. We took notice too. But the question is:  Are they really what Vasque is making them be?

Features of the Vasque Mantra 2.0 Hiking Shoes

From the very first time you open the box and take a look at them, you know Vasque Men’s Mantra 2.0 mean business. An all leather build with a 1.8mm Nubuck leather upper and an abrasion resistant mesh make sure that the shoes stay tough, durable and also provide breathability.

The lacing system on these shoes is also top-notch. The laces are designed primarily for providing the ideal fit for every situation while retaining the easy slip-on slip-off nature of the shoe.

Perhaps the most interesting part of the Mantra 2.0 is the sole. Vibram’s Nuasi sole is known for being a versatile sole when it comes to trekking. Mantra 2.0 uses Vibram’s Nuasi sole to provide exceptional versatility be it a hard, technical hike or a quite easy stroll in your neighborhood park. It uses XSTrek compound and angular, multi-directional lugs for excellent traction on virtually every surface.

The Nuasi sole is one side of the story. Other niceties include a TPU midfoot stabilizer and a lightweight polyurethane midsole. The inclusion of these features in addition to the Nuasi sole results in increased stability and maintains ample forefoot flex for increased pace.

The Mantra 2.0 isn’t just for short, high pace runs, it is an excellent long distance hiking shoe thanks to Mantra’s Perpetuum last which ensure that you experience the best fit possible. This straight line makes the shoe comfortable to wear for people with flat feet and holds the foot securely in place.

Mantra 2.0 is also available in a Gore-Tex version. The Gore-Tex version includes a waterproof lining that doubles as a breathable fabric.

Vasque makes Mantra 2.0 in a variety of colors including a Beluga/Rooibos Tea which looks stealthy. It costs around $100.
